Tell Your Family To **** Off

Does your family love and support you and your choices? Do they judge them?

A lot of people I know are the world’s upcoming visionaries, entrepreneurs, and celebrities. (This is my preferred crowd to hang with.)

A lot of them deal with a tremendous amount of pressure, extenuating circumstances, and b.s. from the people around them.

This is a hot button topic for so many. People fret and stress and worry over their family’s reactions, choices, and attitudes, doesn’t it seem like there’s a better way? Surely they’re wishing for a solution…

‘Law of Attraction’ says that these people are attracting all these unsupportive things — whatever, it’s cool, either way, I’d like to offer some inspiring words and a story to take to heart and mind.

I say that people attract all these things simply because they are too scared to take an honest, committed, clear stand on what they truly desire in their lives.

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve heard some variation of "My family doesn’t support what I do / think / feel / choose," and this doesn’t even take into account the many times people fall asleep worrying over some tiff or argument with someone close to them.

Why does this keep happening? What can I do about it?

Well, I can give all you passion-pursuers, you up-and-coming pioneers and visionaries, a little (or much) inspirational ammo.

People have forgotten the power of clarity and committment. People have forgotten how to stand up and say what needs to be said, and do what needs to be done, for the good of all. It’s a slippery slope towards misery.

It doesn’t have to be this way though. They are amazing, uplifting, beautiful reminders available, and it felt like one flowed through me today.

What follows are some of the most powerful things I could think of, to give to all my friends and readers who’re surrounded by haters and are currently (but-not-for–long!) unsupported by the people they love.

All these words and info-graphics all came flowing out in a flurry of inspiration, enjoy :)

And by all means… if you like it, or feel it could benefit someone passionate you know (or someone who’s forgotten what it’s like to dream), please share it!

i really love that you are so motivating and so so positive.. but i do have one issue; for people that are wanting to strive forward and do their very best with what they love, some might like to have tips here and there of what they could do to make things happen faster for themselves.. versus finding a connection here, and meeting someone else a few months later that would help them out down the road.. you follow?
for instance, how do you keep up with your own successes? how do you continue to find your flow and still keep up with basic things like bills, debts, and rent?
other than that, I love your endless support. :)

Cara… awesome response, and great feedback on something I think a lot of people want to know about. :)

I loved it so much, that it inspired me to create another info-graphic, but for now I’ll say this…

Every success story, biography, and happy grandparent have all succeeded the same way.

If you look at their lives and listen to their stories, you will find countless ways and times they have

    a) faced their own fear, whatever was scaring them, whether it be leaving home, arguing with family, physical injury, whatever.

    they have

    b) overcome that fear, put worry about anything aside, and passionately done what they loved. this usually placed them in an extremely vulnerable position from debtors, landlords, family, bosses, etc. – BUT THEY DID IT ANYWAY, and instead of everything going to shit…

    (C) HAPPENED.

    c) as they did what they loved, they were saved by incredible luck, chance, twist of fate, coincidence, miracle, magic, synchronicity.

    —-

I actually get this question a lot, people want to Do What They Love and Shape The World, and Use Their Gifts, but oops, Bills/Rent/Food/Shelter are in the way :)

So to address all of the people who keep asking for the “How To”s…

    (How to make money?
    How to survive?
    How to pay bills?
    How to convince my friends/family?
    How to convince investors?
    How to attract clients?
    Etc. etc. etc.)

If your life is not having moments of personally-badass-moves like all the millions of celebrities, heroes, and world-contributors who have shown the way throughout history — you’re asking the wrong questions, period.

The How To’s are great for a time, and great for a start, but they are not super-relevant to Doing What You Love.

    Better questions might be:

-What am I deep down, really, truly afraid of? (Mom? Dad? Broke-ness? Homeless-ness? Survival? Failure? Lack Of Success? Rejection? Self-Expression? Judgment?)

-How much pain do I feel each day because I keep allowing this fear to stop me from Being Badass? (Am I miserable because I don’t get out in the world? Am I miserable because I don’t stand up to my parents in any discussion? Am I miserable because each day I don’t take any steps towards honing my craft?)

-What step, right now, in this moment can I take towards breaking through it, facing it, and overcoming it? (Can I put a penny in a savings fund? Can I sell my clutter? Can I email some appreciation to mentors or celebrities who I look up to? Can I give my family a piece of my mind? Can I quit my job? Can I make a list of reasons why I should quit my job? Can I write a journal about the success I see for myself? WHAT. STEPS. NOW?)

And I bet if you ask yourself these things, then the answers will arrive ever-so-nicely. :)

YES! thank you for this!! this reminded me to ask the proper questions to myself… I trip and stumble into that own mind frame every once in a while and I catch myself asking myself and other people the wrong things.
This is why I have people like you around to remind me :)

You know you got me to keep pushing you forward (as you keep doing it to me).

Jubran said that if you reached the top of the mountain, you are either going down the valley or you’re gonna ride some clouds. But standing there on the top (for just being on top, afraid to make a move), it is stillness. And stillness is death.

The biggest critic that you have to face is yourself. Anyone else shouldn’t hold you down. Use any criticism to build yourself more, not to let it affect you negatively.

    P.S. love you etc … ;p

Awesome Cara, my pleasure truly. These kinds of questions and exchanges are a big part of what furthers us all; humanity as a collective. Thanks for being you :D

Mud, fantastic of you to drop by and contribute, it’s appreciated, thanks man.
