Often times, a piece just emerges, clearly from a source other than one’s self alone. (this is actually true of all works, but a lot of the time we mistakenly believe it comes solely from ourselves, silly egos…) the latest piece i’ve created, breathe-through-tension is such a piece.
i’d set out to create a poster to attract some clients who might be looking for creative living guidance or for flare and edge portraiture. when i was browsing my folders of stock images and re-organizing my lightroom for inspiration, i found an old work i’d made when i first started experimenting with minimalism and 3d called ‘seneschal.’ the piece was about 5 years old.
i decided to use it a starting point for my poster. i figured i’d slap a few brilliantly attracting phrases on it and go get it printed. as i created, i kept getting a niggling feeling somewhere inside that the artwork wasn’t finished, and so i kept adding, experimenting, and playing and the result was so appealing to me, that i stopped, decided it was a finished piece of fine art, and that was that. (the piece makes use of a few brushes from brushking.eu, specifically, david legget’s dirt sprays and axeraider’s inner universes — great work.
of course, now i don’t have a poster, so we’ll see how i feel
anyway, when i started the work i was feeling pretty tense – the pressures and tests of life can get to even the most zen of us at times, and i’m no exception… yet
– eventually, when the piece was finished i let a out great sigh of relief and as the breath left my body, i could feel my shoulders relax and physically felt better, good, accomplished.
the thing is, it was a reminder to me to breathe calmly throughout all tension. there was no need for the poor posture and worry about life and so on. and so this creative masterwork was dubbed: breathe-through-tension.
i trust it will be enjoyed, and you are all able to take something beautiful from it. if you feel its worthwhile, please share it with others.
i had a lot of fun creating it.
