From The Net: Truly Inspirational

The internet is vast, and a plethora of inspiration is out there. I’ve collected some of it to share. Enjoy :)

1. Cerium’s Blog has a post on Inspirational Architecture – Gorgeous works of lighting and environment. Mmm.
2. 10 Brilliant watch designs collected by Toxel.com – I can’t tell you how awesome it is to look at some of these. My favourite is the Seiko Paper watch, so elegant and minimal. Mmm. I also like the F1/Carbon GMT.
3. 10 Vital actions to inspire others from The Enhance Life – "There is a reason why people cheer at football matches, cry at funerals and laugh at jokes; we are all affected by each other. Your actions make a difference in my life and my actions make a difference in your life. As a result, certain vital actions CAN inspire and motivate others."
4. 8 Clever Bedroom setups c/o Web Urbanist – Guess I’m on an architecture/home decor kick lately. What can I say, it’s all art.
5. 40 Beautiful and free icon sets collected by six revisions – Yes, they might just be computer icons, but they’re not just computer icons. :)
6. Back To Essentials Inspiring Typography – "Good typography is like bread: ready to be admired, appraised, and dissected before it is consumed." – Bringhurst
7. 10 Masterpiece High Speed Water Photos – This is a technique many photographers learn and experiment with, but few show such an impressive array as the shots contained in this collection.
8. Brainpickings.org’s top album covers – Album covers have for me, always been a very intriguing and eye-opening visual interpretation of music. My most-mentioned favourite artist, Dave McKean, did tremendous work on album covers off and on throughout his career for bands he really got behind, like the beautiful music of The Watchmen.
9. 18 Beautiful bridges from around the world collected by Frikoo – Ok, ever since I built a tooth-pick bridge in grade 6, I felt that bridges were lame. I was wrong, see for yourself :P
10. Hongkiat’s creative ads – Advertising is often frowned upon, its ‘commercial’ nature shunned, but it can be just as creative, and often more creative than many pieces of half-assed ‘art.’
11. Most Popular DIY Projects – DIY is starting to come into its own with sites like Instructables.com leading the way, and it’s pretty beautiful to see.
12. The Year’s Best Indie Video Games – Hell yeah, software is art and these indie games really drive that point home. Just take a look at Crayon Physics Deluxe for the PC and iPhone!

And it’s not just lists of creative goodness…
Here’s some individuals and ideas that are pretty damn cool:

Greening the Ghetto – "Can a remedy serve for both global warming and poverty?"
Stunning Eye Candy (Literally) – Most people find eyes absolutely beautiful to look at, many have an appreciation for make-up, but Johanna (aka LittleMeWhatever) who is a very talented photographer and make-up artist shows a completely different level of eye-art. I love it. Love it.
Skitch – Flickr users are embracing this with a passion… "Now that I’m using Skitch more, I’m finding I use its different parts in different ways. Sometimes I just need to draw something quick without the complexity of Photoshop. I like the fun, casual feel of the Skitch sketches. Sometimes I just need a quick screen shot for my blog. Sometimes we create stuff for how-tos or presentations, and that’s when I most like being able to draw or write right on top of a screen shot or photo. It’s definitely on my must-haves list now."
PowerMat – "Powermat offers the only scalable solution to transform large work surfaces and wall areas into safe and efficient conductors of electricity and is easily integrated into building construction and furniture design." – I have no idea how this works, but the concept is brilliant, and one of the best ways I’ve seen for doing away with wire-clutter.
Robert J. Lang Origami – Would you like a folding fiddler crab, complete with oversized claw, from one piece of paper? Tricky order. And it’s one solved by Robert J. Lang with a combination of mathematics and art. The guy is awesome, check it out.
Google Offices – Tons of stuff has been said about Google’s world-changing look at employment, and their ability to magnetically attract so many of the world’s most brilliant and creative minds speak for itself, to me.
Shu Uemura Makeup – Healthy, balanced metabolism for the most delicate skin and perfect function for make-up art. A beautiful philosophy from a beautiful brand.
Elizabeth Gilbert on Genius – "Encourage our great creative minds to live!" – This woman has one of the most honest, layman’s terms look at genius, inspiration, and creativity I’ve heard in a long time. It really sheds light on people who hate on great bands or great artists when they feel they "experimented too much" or "departed from their style" or "didn’t live up to their last work."
IBM patents bullet-dodging bionics – !?! Are we to be Neo in the matrix…

That wraps it up for now, and contained in this post are some really truly wonderful things… if you check one or more of them out, I’d really love to hear what anything you have to say about it. Give these guys some love :)

Anyway, hope you enjoyed… There may be a part 2!
