Do What You Love – Climbing

At SpiritSentient the aim is to transform and evolve humanity, period.
Lofty? Sure. Controversial? Maybe. Beautiful? Most definitely!

Part of this starts in our own community. Toronto is a fountain of beautiful, creative, talented, powerful people, with big vision doing big things. Often-times, during the fledging phase of their dreams, they are not given the recognition, tribute, and support on a level I personally prefer to see. Perhaps this is simply so that we at SpiritSentient can offer them some reknown.

To this end, we introduce to you Do What You Love (DWYL)- a video series focused on highlighting and bringing attention to awesome companies, causes, people and ideas. SpiritSentient tends to attract all sorts of positive people with amazing ideas and the desire/drive to bring them to life physically, and giving them the spotlight in any way, promoting their vision, and bringing them whatever fame + fortune I can manage is… fun!

Take Greg Wheeler for example. Most great climbers start at a young age and develop amazing skills. Greg, at age 29, started climbing in the gym. This summer he’s been outdoors at different locations maybe 10 times this summer; his vacation was in Arizona; he has no qualms about leading 5.10a’s and will step up to 5.12′s top-rope. Aaaand he’s made more climbing videos than most people I know. ;) If all that happened in 8 months (where he went to the gym an average of 1 time a week), I’m definitely psyched to see what he does a year from now, or even next week! It’s truly inspiring. There are lots of examples of someone picking up a skill extremely fast, and Greg is a great example of how you can learn something new as fast as you like, if you love it enough; I mean really love it.

How did all this come to be? About a year ago my friend Neel got me into climbing. Shortly after that, the two of us did some work with Sonnie Trotter (Inspiring Canadian Climber Extraordinaire) on his new website (soon to launch.) And I began watching climbing videos. Little did I realize then that’d I soon be making them.

This isn’t really a climbing site (though physical, mental, and spiritual ‘ascension’ of all kinds are highly encouraged,) and the video isn’t "extreme-sports" level or anything, and that’s sort of the point. Though the route grade-levels may appear to be low, that merely highlights all the more that it’s not about how record-setting or how fast a person is acting *right now*-*this very instant*, it’s about appreciating the beauty of their growth and their journey. As children, we’re often encouraged when we do something ‘low-level’ that any adult around can easily manage — but the appreciation is genuine, for everyone is simply loving the child’s growth. Sometimes along the way, society can forget about this concept, and stop appreciating people’s passion and growth. I’m quite techincally skilled in a wide variety of disciplines, and I encourage massively anyone else’s endeavours, whether I’m able to achieve their results faster/better or not.

The videos have a pretty decent production value, especially when viewed in contrast to a large majority of youtube clips, and they totally support people’s passions.
Video is often considered an ‘elite’, ‘out-of-reach’ medium of expression for many people early on their path in life, and to give them the opportunity to be part of one feels wonderful.

I’ve thanked everyone involved a hundred times, and I’ll do so again here. Thank you all so much. I love seeing humanity Do What They Love.

This is your best video yet, so amazing. I can’t wait to see what you create a year from now. You are truly an inspiration. Lots of love, light, peace and happiness.

Woohoo! Glad you're all feelin' it (apologies for the late reply Tori :D ). We have a city filled with amazing, beautiful, talented people… investing some time and energy towards praising them feels great!
