Marketing Is Just Educating Crowds And Sharing Value, That`s All

Marketing Is Just Educating Crowds And Sharing Value, That`s All

The word ‘marketing’ just means educating audiences + sharing value. That’s it. Simple. And I had to get that out of the way first, because the word ‘marketing’ is more offensive to some artists than ‘fuck you, asshole.’ (Actually, many artists I know greet each other something like that, lol.)

A Personal Story Of My Wandering Success-Less Boat

Posted by on Oct 9, 2011 in Abundance, Artistic Inspiration, Artists, Confidence, Conscious Creation, Life Coaching, Life Purpose, Purposeful Art, Self-Improvement, Success, Success-Consciousness | 4 comments

Hi!

It’s me, Jason, and I have a really personal story to share with you.

I want you to succeed, and I’m going to tell you one of the mistakes I’ve made that really held back my success.

The mistake was this: Not Having A Plan. With no map to guide you and no course plotted, you can and will GET LOST.

Creative People Are Like Speed-Boats

You see, creative people are like power-boats in a huge ocean, they can easily get to a desination (change the world), they have tons of energy (inspirational ‘fuel’), but they also have unlimited freedom and the tendency to wander around for ages (lots of ideas & little guidance).

I’ve run SpiritSentient for years, building it up with amazing content, coaching people all day everyday, no matter what, and creating art.

But while I always did that, I didn’t REALLY do it. I was NOT FOCUSED and I had NO OVER-ARCHING PLAN to guide me. I wanted to reach land and find the buried treasure, but I refused to plot a course and I wouldn’t invest in a map.

In fact, I was super-eager to outsource that stuff. I brought people on board who I thought I could pour my energy into, and they’d use my energy well, to create value… turns out, they didn’t have a map either. We both wandered aimlessly together.

It mostly sucked, and we all played a role in that.* (*It actually made my life, and I got tons of value from it, and I expect those people to succeed with me still.)

B-B-B-But, I Love ALL My Projects

I know, you’re multi-passionate, you have a lot of talents and ideas. Me too.

And a boat in the ocean has lots of directions to choose from, but NOT ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

I’m not saying it can’t be done, in fact, Emilie Wapnick over at PuttyLike shows people how to pursue multiple passions, I’m just sharing what worked for me.

I started up many side-projects, all of them great ideas, all of them ‘semi-successful’, (and I still know all of them will blossom when the time is right, down the road,) but eventually my resources were pulled in a million different directions and I felt like I was drowning.

If someone asked me what I did in a given week, I’d have 100s of impressive creations, & projects to share — and they were very impressive — but impressive doesn’t cut it. They were all only ‘kinda-successful’. :(

Was my boat getting anywhere? It was all slow-creeping, lateral movement. There was no real, throttle-cranked, forward-motion. There was no substantial success – I wanted it, but I didn`t realize that a course was necessary. I wanted that throttle-cranked, smooth-right, in-the-zone feeling in my health, relationships, and business I didn`t want kinda-successful. Sure I was living my dream, waking up everyday working on what I wanted to, but it was aimless, and it wasn`t enough to drown out the haters. Kinda successful won`t inspire your families to join you. Kinda successful won’t draw a line in the sand for apathetic friends. Kinda successful doesn’t do much of anything.

You don’t want ‘kinda-successful, right? Kinda-successful = scraping by. Doing okay. Not really living.

You want throttle-cranked, woo-hoo-lets-ride-the-wave, balls-out, pure success.

You’re not here for half-assed stuff.

Damn right you`re not.

So Stop!

So, please… STOP. Respect your power, creative geniuses. You’re good at so many things, you can go so many directions, you can slam down the gas with more talent in your baby finger than most people dream of… but DON’T, at least until you’ve set a tentative, basic, course.

  • Don`t move your boat.
  • Don`t push the gas pedal.
  • Don’t even eat dinner.
  • Do not call a friend.
  • Do not play a game.
  • Do not go have sex.

Every single one of these things is just you pursuing another `great idea` or distraction. Because you’ve lived X years of life filled with all those tasks, but barely ever, if at all, have you Plotted A Course, BEFORE enjoying all the pitstops and scenery.

Your #1 priority right now, this very second, is to grab a piece of paper and do that thing you probably have never done, PLOT A COURSE. DRAW A MAP.

I want you to succeed.

I want you to skip the years of mediocrity I lived.

There is NO NEED for you to wander the ocean aimlessly any longer.

The course is in your heart, the project is your vision.

How To Plot Your Course

Pick a project, break it down into chunks, and THEN put the pedal-to-the-metal.

Have an awesome ride, reach your buried treasure, and then repeat with another project.

You can take breaks, you can still do your multiple project thing, no one is saying, plot the course and OMG, STICK TO IT LIKE A CRAZY PERSON.

No one is saying NO pit-stops for swimming.

No one is saying NO picking up hitch-hikers.

I’m just saying at least have a course plotted before you roam the entire fucking ocean.

It’s huge, just like life, and you only have so many years here. Make the most of them.

I care about life and humanity so much. I feel very, very good if I can help people have some smoother paths to success.

I want you to succeed so much, and this is my story. I hope you enjoyed it.

The links in this article go to a great + free explanation and an easy-to-apply exercise to get you on track and setting up your own map. If you’d like more; if you’d like some hand-holding guidance on how and why to plan a course, in fun ways, let’s succeed together: sign up for a SpiritSentient Success Session.

How To Have Fun Finding Your Life Purpose (With Pretty Pictures!)

There are all kinds of exercises that help you find your life purpose.Tribal leaders have been helping the next generation with it for ages. In our current fast-moving society, we still have leaders helping us with this, and now I’m throwing my hat into the ring.

My method is inspired by a combination of valuable exercises by these guys: Jonathan Mead, Mark Silver, Tad Hargrave and Steve Pavlina. They’re brilliant and each focus on their own specific styles.

Use Your Power – Choose Your Friends

So how, exactly do we choose our friends? Well, like choosing ANYTHING in life, it helps to know what you’re looking for.

It all starts with a list.

The list is our first real step if you think it might be time for a change in your life. It took me a couple years to make this change, I’m not sure that reflects super-beautifully on me, but hey, timing is timing. I’d like to help you guys make it sooner, easier, and more consciously.
