Almost every artist I talk to thinks that they know their fans, but how do they know? Did they study? Profile their common buyers? How much consicous-thoughtwent into understanding their fans. Did they sit down one day and figure it out? Did they think about it every day on the bus? Because in my experience… most artists have done NONE of these things. Most artists ASSUME they know their fans, but assumptions are a very double-edged sword.
