Note, this is almost a complete re-write / re-post from over a year ago. I was recently listening to Eminem talk about "Not Afraid", and his personal and artistic growth, and it inspired me to dig this out of the archives and ‘remix’ it.
We all know celebrities have a lot going for them. Wouldn’t it be nice to have some of what they have? On the whole they have financial freedom, they have fans and are seen as valuable people. Many people want to be like them, many are jealous of them. How do we plug in to the celebrity factor? Follow along and we’ll look at ways to access it.
Celebrities Think Different
Our lives are made up of many moments, and in each moment we can hold a certain view of things, express a certain attitude, and think certain thoughts. The world`s successful people think differently than the average person.
They do. Plain and simple.
All of them appreciate and thank God for everything in their lives and that they live in a just universe that is looking out for them. And they adopted this view early on in their lives and careers.
Now you can debate whether celebrities believe this stuff because they`re lucky and all kinds of good things happened to them, or they adopted the beliefs first, even though things looked grim, and then things took a turn for the better.
For me, there’s nothing to argue about: be a scientist, be experimental, and find out for yourself. Experience is life’s greatest teacher. I bet you’ve tried *everything* to achieve success already. If What’s left? Try changing your thoughts. Try believing new things. Everyone has that ability to change their thoughts, the celebrities do, and you do.
60,000 thoughts a day, and most people are worrying about bills, survival, drinking, sex, manipulating others, escaping responsibility, and competing with other people. Celebrities see themselves as successful, and bigger than whatever challenge faces them.
I’ve noticed that people who judge celebrities the most, at least in my experience, are artists & spiritual types. I often hear them dismissing celebrity success as ‘pandering to the masses’, or that celebrities are ‘shallow airheads’.
Smarter Than Celebrities, Right?
So we have celebrities who are moving the masses, delivering whatever value they have to offer and taking steps to ensure that it has reach and is getting out to the people. And then we have others who sit around judging them, while these judge-ers show their work off to an elite few who ‘get them’ and agree with them.
I judged celebrities for a long time.
Smart people and spiritual people, in my experience, often do this. While celebs are out making connections, attending events, embracing people and life, and reaching their audiences, us so-called ‘smart people’ are sitting around bashing them and reaching tiny audiences or none at all.
It was a huge slice of humble pie for me to realize what I’d been doing. It hurts humanity when we judge others. It hurts humanity when we won’t go the extra mile to reach an audience with our value.
The labels that are flung around about celebrities, calling them ‘materialistic’, ‘greedy’, ‘wasteful’, ‘useless’, ‘slutty’, ‘excessive’, ‘unoriginal’, ‘pandering’, ‘unartistic’ and ‘manipulative’ do not tend to come from the (generally very accepting) fans of these celebrities. A Britney Spears fan is not busy calling Britney a slut, corruptor, or unfit mother. They’re usually singing along, or wishing her the best for her life. Pretty decent.
These successful people, who are often viewed as disconnected from reality, and as one-dimenisonal puppets for mass-media america, can be seen as inspired human beings, who pursue their passions unapologetically, no matter what gossip mags and haters say.
I Want You To Succeed
Lots of people would love even an ounce of celebrity-juice, and I’d love for you to succeed in whatever ways make you happy. Personally I’ve always looked at celebrities as having some kind of vibe that I’d like to have for myself. I see these people as one`s who’ve paved the way. I study them, and I meet more of them every day.
Celebrity Wisdom
The rich and famous may be ‘flawed’, but who isn’t? One thing about them is that they clearly have the guts to allow their mistakes and triumphs to be amplified, broadcast, and put on display for the globe to see.
What follows are some quotes, clips, and interviews from successful, accomplished people. They all have different ideas about life, but I feel there’s something really cool patterns to notice from what they have to say. The media can focus on whatever they like, I focus on the beautiful, inspired, heartfelt, human words.
1. Jay-Z
The widely-accepted ‘CEO of Hip-Hop’ has a lot to say about life, and the precepts of all the great masters are sprinkled throughout his beliefs. His interview with Charlie Rose is FANTASTIC. If I were to imagine an impressive, well-spoken, inspirational interview for any creative person to watch, this 5 part video would be it. It only has 7,000 views but to me, this interview is as good as some of his tightest rhymes and poetry. I`d love to interview this well.
"I believe people give words power. You can’t remove a word, and change what’s going on…We have to get back to artist’s, and artistry."
"…We`ve all seen the complexity of human beings: We`ve seen preachers do wrong, we`ve seen drug-dealers do good, we`ve seen all kind of different things…"
"Make the extraordinary things ordinary, it should happen pretty much all the time…that’s my goal."
"Love is the only thing that stands the test of time. Rap should get back to love.Well, yeah, in many ways, in many ways because love could be NWA saying F*** the police. That’s a love for they neighborhood, they wanna protect it. They don’t wanna be hurt or in jured or things like that — or love could be the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, just great art for the sake of art – not the dance song, that’s not love, that’s your thinking. That’s trying to be successful."
"I believe in the universe, when the time is right and you know, the mood is right."
2. Will Smith
I’ve spoken often about how important ideas and choices are. Will Smith thinks along the same lines.
"Make a choice, right. You just decide. And then, from that point, the universe is gonna get out yer way — I mean it’s like water, it wants to move and go around stuff y’know."
3. Bruce Lee
I’ve been a fan of Bruce since I was a child, but it was my brother Drew who really brought this man’s words home for me.
"Be formless; shapeless, like water… Water can flow, or it can crash. Be water my friend."
4. Jim Carrey
Jim gets fairly esoteric here (as does Will Smith in certain interviews), and it’s ballsy. For someone so much in the public eye to come out and say something so powerful and inspired, possibly throwing away a massive chunk of their fan-base in the process, takes courage.
"My purpose is aligned with [relieving suffering.]…we are all one thing."
5. Bill Gates
Bill Gates touches on many things, and similar to many other celebs on this list, he speaks about positive thinking.
"I am an optimist. Any tough problem, it can be solved…As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others."
6. Snoop Dogg
Snoop (a self-proclaimed Frank Sinatra fan) has been the center of a number of scandals for some of the personal choices he’s made in his life, that, like most celebrities, get scrutinized and wide-spread discussion and judgment. Despite this, he continues to think thoughts and speak words about God and life with the people in his circle, and the people who interview him.
"God is everything to me, without god I’m nothing, I couldn’t exist without him and I keep him in everything I do…How to work with each other, how to have discipline, dedication, and desire…Always fun, if it ain’t fun, no point in doing it."
7. Eminem
Eminem’s lyrics are known for being hateful and downright evil, but he is incredibly well-spoken and kind through the majority of his interviews. He says there is no profanity in his house, or around his daighters, and that it only shows up in his art, which is, well… art. He’s also known for dissrespecting and name-dropping many other celebrity artists, but has grown past that.
"I don’t wanna go overboard with it, but I do feel like that if I can help people who’ve been through a similar situation, then why not."
8. Christina Aguilera
Christina Aguilera speaks on her life purpose and how it relates to her powerful singing voice.
"I believe in God and um, I believe that we’re all here for a purpose, and that everything happens for a purpose. So that’s uh…I’m on this earth to fulfill a purpose, and that is the music."
9. Donald Trump
Donald Trump has quite an interesting history, at one point owing billions of dollars, and he looked at it with a positive attitude, and kept on trucking. He employed many spiritual concepts in his thinking and life. "Do What You Love"
"I just loved my lifestyle, and I didn’t wanna change my lifestyle, and I figured the best way not to change my lifestyle was to comeback… You’ve gotta love what you’re doing… Without passion, you have no energy. Without energy, you have nothing."
10. Mariah Carey
Mariah’s been misquoted, painted in poor light, and mentioned in scandals. She also has a heart of gold that shines through especially when an interviewer is speaking sincerely with her.
"Whatever you’re going through in your life, don’t ever give up."
11. Deepak Chopra
Deepak Chopra an accomplished doctor-turned-alternative-healer.
"Spirit is everything…When you feel the intoxication of love, when you have intuition and creativity…or when you feel happy, then you’re close to your spirit."
12. John Wooden
Famous basketball athlete and coach (inducted into BOTH halls of fame,) John Wooden, now over a hundred years old and still going strong, speaks on success.
"My pyramid of success…Industrious enthusiasm, enjoying what you’re doing…and the top, faith and patience."
13. Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie, looked upon as one of the world’s most beautiful women at an early age, has been much less in the public eye, yet perhaps far more radiantly beautiful and helpful to the world in her recent years.
"I dream about seeing things change for the better, now, I used to dream about things more for myself and now I dream for others and it’s a better way."
14. Dave Chappelle
A daring pioneer of a comedian, with very eye-opening views on Hollywood and the lack of conscious good will that can sometimes be found there. He hints at The Illuminati
"What’s going on in Hollywood? Nobody knows. The worst thing to call somebody is ‘crazy’, it’s dismissive. I don’t understand this person, so they’re crazy. That’s bullshit. [Celebrities] are not crazy, they’re strong people, maybe their environment… is a little sick."
15. John Frusciante
John Frusciante, stunning long-term guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, put away his drugs and rock + roll life to embrace his spiritual growth through his music, releasing some absolutely beautiful works.
"The thing that makes it possible for a person to be in the right place at the right time to create the things that they create — It has to do with a really complex structure of the mind and the soul and and and the nervous system and everything and all these unknown things that are taking place in the subconscious…"
16. Jesus
Hopefully no introduction needed…
"‘You’ve heard the law ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you…If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else?"
17. Michael Phelps
Michael Phelps is a soft-spoken Olympic Champion who has broken a ridiculous amount of World Records in swimming. Accomplished athletes often have much to say on the beauty of inspired success and tremendous growth.
"You can’t put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get."
18. Beyonce Knowles
Entertainers across the world speak about love, sing about love, and create tributes to love. When asked what inspires them? The answer is often ‘love.’ If you ask fans, you may hear them explain that they’re motivated by money or survival. The question is did the mode of thinking come first, or did the success come first?
"Concentrate on your inner beauty, and your spirit… "
Celebrities Are More Successful, And More Spiritual?
There are more and more overtly spiritually-oriented things becoming mainstream. Eckhart Tolle’s support from Oprah and Jim Carrey is significant, Deepak Chopra’s support by Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Hilary Clinton is noteworthy. There are networks popping up like paraview.tv, goodnewsnetwork.org, and YES! magazine. There’s The Secret, Abraham-Hicks and What The Bleep! Do We Know. There’s Spiritual Cinema Circle, the Manifestation Station and TED TV.
A lot of successful celebrities reference a lot of similar and interesting ideas. Practically all of them came through hard times and struggle in their life. They faced choices and decisions other people are often not ready for, and would hate to make.
These same people are often judged, labelled, and harassed.
Do yourself a favour: Focus on what they’ve done well, and model after that particular thing, take the best of it, and then improve upon the rest.
Do you see yourself being as influential, resourceful, beautiful and abundant as the world’s famous and visibly successful or similar, or do you want to hate on the celebrities?
Think about it, make a choice
I trust this list has given you all some food for thought. Mad love from SS.
Bonus Quotes
Lil Kim: "I feel like I’m an instrument god uses to play his music – thats just it – I mean, I can’t say I’m the best role model in the world, we make mistakes, I’m only human, I’m not perfect. But the bottom line is God put me here for a reason." – Lil Kim often labelled as a whore, regardless knows where to attribute her success and seems is open and non-judging to others.
Marilyn Manson: "Message in the music…um, enjoy yourself, don’t be afraid to do whatever people tell you normally not to do, and always look good when you’re doing it." – Manson may often be labelled as some kind of blight on humanity, but encouraging other people to pursue their dreams and to do what the world tells them not to, is pretty ballin’.
Oprah Winfrey: "God and the essence of all consciousness, isnt something to believe, God is. God Is. And God is a feeling experience, not a believing experience, and in fact if your religion is a believing experience, if God for you, is still a belief, that’s not God.
