15 Songs on How Jay-Z Is A Spiritual Guru Part 6

Jay-Z Blueprint 3 Banner

From Part 5.

Looking at successful people is an interesting thing, a whole slew of common traits crop up.

Passionate purpose. Acting despite fear. Positive self-image/self-talk. Deep gratitude for life, faith in God, etc. — "Oh sure, it’s easy for them to have that, they’re rich and successful," is a common response. The thing is, if you were to sit down and talk to all those people, you’d find they all have hard times and rough starts and through all those times they focused on maintaining the above qualities, and it is that high-quality maintenance and standards they attribute their actual physical success to. It’s a chicken and egg thing, and the majority of humanity has it backward, but more are coming around every day.

The Blueprint III is like one long, passionate, emotionally intense affirmation peppered with gratitude, confidence, and the overcoming of nay-sayers and tire-kickers. It is the physical manifestation of Jay-Z’s amazing thoughts, attitudes, and experiences.

Summary of Principles:

It is a spiritual tenet that we are all connected and helping, praising, and supporting others is a powerful way to elevate ourselves.

[Hook]
Everyday a star is born [J. Cole]
Clap for em, clap for em, clap for em [Jay-Z]
Everyday a star is born [J. Cole]
Clap for em, clap for em, clap for em [Jay-Z]
Hey!

[Verse 1 - Jay-Z]
I seen Mase do it, I seen Ye do it
X came through, caught lighter fluid
Still I came through it
Clap for em
But I’m the blueprint
I’m like the map for em
I dropped another classic
Made Puff pass it
Nobody could touch Puff back when Puff had it
Wayne scorching, I’ll applaud him
If he keep going, pass the torch to him
50 came through like hurricanes do
I thought I’d finish his ass at Summer Jam too
I had the Illmatic on bootleg
The shit was so ahead, thought we was all dead
Wayne did A milli, 50 did a milli
Ye too, but what Em did was silly
The white boy blossomed after Dre endorsed him
His flow on Renegade, fuckin’ awesome
Applaud himRespect, admiration, and appreciation from Jay-Z to Mase, Kanye West, DMX, Puff Daddy, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Nas, Eminem, and Dr. Dre. Some consider this to be a marketing ploy and a way to name-drop, and although it may function as such, I personally get the impression that Jay-Z is sincere, and an inspired artist, who truly appreciates hip-hop and all it’s components.

[Hook]

[Verse 2 - Jay-Z]
Snoop Dogg did, Nelly came down
The Face Mob, kept it ghetto for the H town
Luda moved digits after he moved bitches
Drake’s up next, see what he do with it
Rule had a run, couple movie parts
T.I. literally wanted to shoot up the charts
What up Jeezy, what it do
Y’all remind me of us in early ’92
Outkast landed, 3 thou was ill
Like a male version of Lauryn Hill
Mobb Deep shook it but Prodigy took it a lil’ too far
Can’t fuck with Brooklyn
Wu-Tang gangbanged it, Meth ate
Rae’ took her on the date with the Purple Tape
Passed on to Ason and then Ghostface
They had a hell of a run
Standing ovate, ayyyMore props to Snoop Dogg, Nelly, Face Mob, Ludacris, Drake, Ja Rule, T.I., Young Jeezy, Outkast Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang Clan with a slight admonishment to Prodigy.

[Hook]

[Verse 3 - Jay-Z]
And I am one of one
Can’t you see just how long my run
My reign Lulu’s son shine
Been a star since I was back in one time
One time give it up for him
December 4th a star was born
Clap for him
This verse takes some time to self-appreciate, not uncommon in rap, and why should it be? Self-appreciation, and ’telling a better story’ about one’s life is a powerful practice.

He went from moving that corner
To this corner office is so enormous
Hey, Pres Carter
Watch them get they Monica on all day
Hey
Got so many different monikers but only 1 Jay
They come, they go
Some real, some faux
Some friends, some hoes
But no, I goes nowhere, this HovIllustrating how he went from drug-dealing to CEO of a Hip-Hop Empire. A feat many would consider anywhere from impossible to unlikely. Also he's garnered much attention from women ;)

[Hook]

[J. Cole]
And could I be a star
Does fame in this game have to change who you are?
Could I be the same one who came from a far away life
Just to make it in these Broadway lights?
Now shining in the broad day light, go figure
A slow transition from a little broke nigga from the Ville
Got a deal, a real life saver
Dreams of being behind the wheel like Jada
J. Cole suggests that one can gain fame and wealth and success without sacrificing creativity, inspiration, or principles.

I chill now…cop a little ice later
Cole you got the glow like a lil’ lightsaber
So clap for him, then applaud Hov
He gave him a platform
Flow so sick thought he wrote the rap for him
J. Cole also appreciates the love, trust, faith, and investment Jay-Z made in him, by offering him a platform for his rap.

No sir
The flow’s cold as a shoulder
Of gold digging hoes when a broke nigga approaches
Told ya I’m focused man
I’ll let you motherfuckers soak it in.His rhymes are awesome because he's absolutely committed and focused to his craft.

I just find it beautiful when one artist is appreciating another. I mean, we are all artists :)

Summary of Principles:

The battles of the sexes, an often interesting topic, Jay-Z delves into the ins and outs, literally and figuratively.

[Verse 1]
If Hov's a Blackberry Bold
Shorty is a Sidekick
She used to have a man
I used to have a side chick
Shorty got wind
I had to blow the chick off
She got rid of him
They both took the shit hard
Shorty played the piano
Me, I played with white keys
Shorty from the South
Oh I think she like me
Shorty like Pac
Me, Big Poppa
She screaming Hit ’Em Up
I’m screaming Who Shot Ya
I’m on that red wine
Shorty like white
Same shit different toilet
We both getting nice
Me I’m from the Apple
Which means I’m a Mac
She’s a PC
She lives in my lapWow. This entire song is an amazing masculine/feminine battle. The beautiful, ever-flowng interplay between yin and yang. It could be about Jay-Z's personal relatonships, it could be about archetypes, either way, it's really well done and littered with double-meanings and pop-culture metaphors. This verse focuses on the aspects that are opposite, complimentary, or different.

[Hook]
Shorty get it in (Jay-Z)
Daddy go hard (Girl)
Venus versus Mars (Jay-Z)

[Verse 2]
Whether black or white
We both like Mike
We both like Jordans
We both Phil’s Knight
I finish my breakfast
Shorty’s out to lunch
Yeah we both eating
It’s better than brunch
Shorty like Pepsi
Me I’m the coke man
Body like a Coke bottle
I crush it like a Coke can
Started at the window
End up at the wall
The Ying to my Yang
I skeet skeet off
In a salt and pepper ’Bach
Shorty like to front
The Bonnie to my Clyde
Both riding shotgun
Both covered in gold
Like C3P0
James and Florida Evans
Let the good times rollThis verse on ways they are similar. There’s also quite a bit of sexual imagery, Jay-Z doesn’t seem shy about any topic in life, be it cocaine, life, death, sex, etc. Many artists struggle with the question of what is too much and what goes over the line.

[Hook]

[Verse 3]
Thought shorty was the truth
Found out she was a cheater
We were supposed to Takeover
I caught her bumping Ether
I thought shorty liked Mike
Found out she liked Prince
Thought she was Adrienne
It&rsquot;s been rocky ever since
My dollars was down
She left me for some Euros
Took my whole flavour
I call her Coke Zero
We were co-MVPs
Like Kobe and Shaq
Left me for the Heat
We were winning back to back
Said I party too much
Shorty got fed up
Shorty got Britney
Shaved her whole head up
We used to make out
Kissing each other&rsquot;s face off
Fell for the Ponzi scheme
Damn shorty just made offThis verse rhymes about how it was all a sham, the relationship was a lie. which can certainly happen. Venus Vs. Mars.
