15 Songs on How Jay-Z Is A Spiritual Guru Part 5

Jay-Z Blueprint 3 Banner

From Part 4.

We’re about half-way through our look at Blueprint III, and I’d like to propose another reason Jay-Z is such a spiritual kind of guy. He recently released a reading list for Oprah, with a few words about books he likes, the books were: Seat Of The Soul – Gary Zukav, Celestine Prophecy – James Redfield, The Odyssey – Homer, Outliers – Malcolm Gladwell, Purple Cow – Seth Godin, and Nigger – Dick Gregory.

07. On To The Next One

On To The Next One

Summary of Principles:

The simple explanation is: Create continually.

[Swizz Beats - Hook]
I got a million ways to get it
Choose one (choose one)
Hey, bring it back (bring it back)
Now double your money and make a stackJay-Z can make money any one of a million ways. Money comes not from specific actions, anyone can succeed with any action, it is thoughts and attitudes regarding money that is key.

I’m on to the next one
On to the next one
On to the next one
On to the next one
On to the next one
On to the next one
On to the next one

Hold up, freeze

Somebody bring me back some money please,

[Jay-Z]
Hov on that new shit niggas like how come
Niggas want my old shit, buy my old album
Niggas stuck on stupid, I gotta keep it moving
Niggas make the same shit, me I make the blueprintJay-Z is all about creating new things and innovating -- all the while critics and fans push hard to focus on old styles and rhymes and ideas. As well, there is a greedy tendency to over-milk certain trends (see D.O.A.) which Jay-Z chooses not to embrace.

Came in Range, hopped out the Lexus
every year since i’ve been on that next shit
traded in the gold for the platinum Rolexes
Now a nigga wrist match the status of my records

Used to rock a throwback, ballin' on the corner
Now I rock a tailored suit looking like a owner
No I'm not a Jonas brother I’m a grown up
No I’m not a virgin I use my cojonesRepeating the theme of having a dark early life and now succeeding beyond most people's wildest dreams.
I move forward the only direction
can't be scared to fail searchin' perfection
Gotta keep it fresh, even when we sexing
but don’t be mad at him when he’s on to the next oneFear of failure is an unacceptable excuse to not pursue our own personal best, and even in dating or relationships Jay-Z ’keeps it fresh’, which is great for the women he is with, but he implores them not to be upset if he ’outgrows’ and moves ’on to the next one.’

Freeze

[Hook]

[Verse 2]
Fuck a throwback jersey cos we on to the next one,
and fuck that auto-tune cos we ohhhhnnnn,
and niggas don’t be mad cos it’s all about progression,
loiterers should be arrestedGrow people, grow. Amen.
, I used to drink Kristal,
them fuckers racist, so I switched Gold Bottles on to that spade shit,
you gon’ have another drink or you just gon’ babysit,
on to the next one, somebody call da waitress,
Baby ’m a boss, I dunno what they do,
I don’t get dropped, I dropped the label,
World can’t hold me, too much ambition,
always knew it’d be like this when I was in the kitchen,
Jay-Z continually grows in his ambition, and he got to where he is through utter faith in his vision, even when he was cooking up drugs.

niggas in the same spots, me I’m dodging rain drops,
meaning i’m on vacay, chillin on a big yacht,
Yeah I got on flip flops, white Louis boat shoes,
you should grow the fuck up,
come here let me coach you,
Really driving the point home about growing, succeeding, and following Jay-Z.

Hold up,

[Chorus]

[Verse 3]
Uh, Big pimpin in the house now,
bought the land, tore the muthafucking house down,
bought the car, tore the muthafucking roof off,
ride clean, I don’t ever take the shoes off.
Bought the jeep, tore the muthafucking doors off,
foot out that bitch, ride that shit like a skateboard,
Navigation on tryin to find my next thrill,
Navigate towards Doing What You Love.

feelin myself i don’t even need an x pill,
So much self-love, a hit of ecstasy or other mind-altering substances are unnecessary.

Can’t chill but my neck will,
haters really gon’ be mad off my next deal.
uh, i dont know hwy they really worry ’bout my pockets,
Meanwhile I had Oprah chillin’ in the projects,
had her out in Bed-Stuy chillin on the steps,
In a move that impressed many, Jay-Z connected with and befriended Oprah Winfrey, who had not had a rapper-guest on her show for over a decade. The two of them checked out Jay's childhood home in the projects of New York and exchanged world-views.

Drinking quarter waters gotta be the best,
MJ at summerjam, Obama on the text,
y’all should be afraid of what I’m gonna do next.
Hold up,

[Chorus]
[End]

I could write about this song, but I’m On To The Next One ;)

08. Off That

Blueprint III Cover

Off That

Summary of Principles:

Do not hesitate; don’t choose stagnation.

Welcome,
to tha,
future
Hey count me in
Find me a nice soft place to land
Im so high
Find me a place to land
Yeah
Right there
Yeah

[Verse 1]
I’m so tomorrow, they order mines on yesterday
which means you on-time than late
So even if I slow it down,
My sound is fast forward
Hold up
I’m just a runway show
But I wear this on my plane in these my runway clothes
Cashmere sweats
They come out next year, but they my last year sweats
And my hoe’s so sick,
Your new chick can’t fuck with my old bitch
And you know this shit,
I’m professional, they know this is
I just may let you borrow this,
This the Blueprint nigga follow this
This is what, what tomorrow is,
Welcome to tomorrow Biiiiiiiiiiiiiii….

[Hook - Drake]
Whatever you about to discover we off that
You about to tell her you love her, we off that
Always want to fight in the club and we off that
But you can’t bring the future back
Y’all steady chasing the fame, and we off that
Oversize clothes and the chains, we off that
Niggas still makin’ it rain and we off that
All the things the world places so much importance on Jay-Z + Drake have transcended and are no longer 'on' those topics, trends, or fads. The over-size clothes and chains so famous in hip-hop culture... well, they're already On To The Next One.

But you can’t bring the future back

Tell them haters get off me
Chris’ we off that
Timbs we off that
Rims we off that

[Jay-Z]
Yeah we off that
Is you still on that?
And we still making money
cuz we still on that
Jay-Z and Drake are in fact still on one key topic though... That of growth and success, and as our culture continues to measure success through monetary indicators, they are still on making money.

(Verse 2)
Say black versus white, my niggas we off that
Please tell Bill O’Reilly to fall back
Tell Rush Limbaugh to get off my balls
This 2010 ain’t 1864
Yeah we come so far
So I drive around town hard-top and its off
And my tribeca loft with my high-brow art and my high-yellow broad
And my dark skinned sis and my best white mate say what’s up to Chris
How’s that for a mix
Got a black president, got green presidents
Blue prints in my white iPod
Black diamonds in my Jesus piece, my God
We ain’t tripping off that
This is a Benetton ad, nigga been up off that

[Hook - Drake]
Whatever you about to discover We off that
You about to tell her you love it, we off that
Always want to fight in the club and we off that
But you can’t bring the future back
Y’all steady chasing the fame, and we off that
Oversize clothes and the chains, we off that
Niggas still makin’ it rain and we off that
But you can’t bring the future back

Tell them haters get off me
Chris’ we off that
Timbs we off that
Rims we off that

Jay-Z
Yeah we off that
Is you still on that?
And we still making money
cuz we still on that

[Verse 3]
I don’t give a fidduck, abiddout the widday
you used to move, what you used to do.
And I don’t give a fidduck abiddout the bitches
that you used to screw, but your future do
And we don’t really care what you used to say
unless that effects your future pay
I’m on a practice field running two a day
so I don’t drop the ball when it’s threw my way
I dont give a fidduck, abiddout the shit that
you probably did, who you probably is
The only time I deal in past tense
is I’m past rims and I’m past tints
If you driving it, I drove it.
If you got it, s’cause I sold it.
You copped it, I bought it back,
And we dont give a fidduck, Nigga we off that
A massive message to anyone who lives at all in their past: We don’t care, it’s next to useless, and we’re long done with that nonsense. Be your better selves, and do it NOW.

[Drake - Hook]
Whatever you about to discover, we off that
You about to tell her you love her, we off that
Always want to fight in the club and we off that
But you can’t bring the future back
Y’all steady chasing the fame, we off that
Oversize clothes and the chains, we off that
Niggas still makin’ it rain and we off that
But you can’t bring the future back

Tell them haters get off me
Chris’ we off that
Timbs we off that
Rims we off that

[Jay-Z]
Yeah we off that
Is you still on that?
And we still making money
cuz we still on that

Aaaaaand we’re Off That…
